Down the Rabbit Hole
Local painter, and San Louie contributor, Mark Bryan is having a 2-month show at Steynberg Gallery, starting Thursday, March 31st.
Mark is widely recognized as a deadly satirist taking on the villains of the day in surprising and delightful fashion. He is also known for his whimsical surrealistic work and pieces that evoke wonder and ask the big questions. Bryan's work has been widely exhibited and featured on numerous satirical and political web sites across the US and internationally. His work has appeared in many publications and magazines as illustration and cover art.Steynberg Gallery1531 Monterey St.

Outtakes
Or, a place for all the images we didn't have room to publish. We're always shaking our heads at just how much talent there is in our backyard and, case in point, here are some images from the shoot we did with Ben Riddering and Steve Bewley in Issue 3. In the course of taking these photographs we discovered Ron's, a delightful shop at 850 W. Grand Ave. in Grover Beach. The last 5 photos are lights (by Steve Bewley) which can be found at Ron's.

Jennifer Young
Jennifer is a contributor to all 3 issues of San Louie and she has an exhibit of photos up at Humankind Fair Trade, starting today, March 4th, from 6-9pm. The show will be up all month, and the theme is a catchy one: Celebrate the everyday. Jennifer's quiet, easy style of working puts her subjects at ease, and her sense of color and composition is phenomenal. Please go see her show, it will be time well spent.

An Octagon Barn pin (sold!)
Eva is a student in Athens, Greece, with a lovely shop on Etsy. She makes jewelry out of polymer clay. We were curious to see if the barn could work as perhaps a pendant or a pin and Eva's style was just perfect (her major is Agricultural Biotechnology). She loved the idea, and it was an interesting process to watch -- the second image above is her starting point. She finished today and the pin is now available on Etsy for all you Barnheads out there.
Thank you, Eva! Do look at the rest of her work -- the shop is being restocked but you can always view past pieces in the sold section of the shop.

Update: The Octagon Barn has some fans in Greece! Eva sold the pin to a Greek customer and has had another local request for a barn pendant.

Blogging away on the Central Coast
We've come to know more than a few of you online and were curious about just how many Central Coast bloggers sent dispatches off into the www with any kind of frequency. So we sat down this past week and came up with over four dozen sites, and we know that's just the tip of the iceberg. We've collected the sites here, and we hope you like it well enough to send in your own. Come hang out with us this Thursday from 6-8 and meet Louie, details in the post just under this one.
To get your blog added, we'll need these items e-mailed to hello@:
1. A compelling image, no smaller than 500 pixels wide
2. A few sentences about the blog
Plates
We spotted some hand-illustrated plates by John Roullard at Anam Cré Pottery Studio in the Creamery (a couple of early pieces are here). Arts SPACE Obispo (right across from Anam Cré) is also having their Hearts Obispo sale starting January 18th.
